Noisecast Roundup: 07/28/2011

Hey guys, I’m back for another quick roundup. I’ve been on the road and all that jazz. Let’s jump right into it.

  • Did LulzSec troll Scotland Yard?
No one is really sure. That’s the rumor, the Topiary that’s been arrested is not the real Topiary. However, wouldn’t be the first time LulzSec used lies to try and cover up a bloody nose.
  • Do you need glasses or use them for fashion? You need to read this.
Excellent review of Zenni Optical by Jake Gross. Seriously, stop getting price gouged. You can get these brand glasses directly from the manufacturers before the branding and markup is added. Seeing as most of you reading this are geeks that got a chubby at a clean unbranded CR-48. I don’t know what I’m saying. Just read it and holler at the process.
  • Windows Phone 7.5 has Skydrive music streaming. (sort of)
I say sort of because, well, it opens up IE9 then lets you play it. It’s still the same thing though. The earlier build of Mango would show an error if you tried to listen to music you had saved on Skydrive.
  • Google offers to rewrite your webpages on the fly, promising 25% to 60% speed boost.
Creepy. however, friggin brilliant and technologically amazing. But I’m uncomfortable with the idea. I admire and fear it. The service will be very limited and free on a trial basis and then when it is officially launched it will be priced “competitively.” I don’t know what that means. I’m not aware of any other companies that offer this service.
  • Microsoft details Twitter and LinkedIn integration in Mango.
This is a bit old. The option was there. However with the latest mango update (the RC) it actually works, and works as advertised. Whatever people might think, the fact that everyone is sleeping on Microsoft’s WP7 platform is turning into a bonafide tragedy.

Hey… where’s the smile? Why so serious?
