What do you get the photographer and whiskey lover that has it all? If money ain’t a thing and rare cask whiskeys are your drink of choice, The Macallan Masters of Photography: Steven Klein edition may be one of the most coveted luxury boxes of the year. The box features the ultra rare liquor – only 100 bottles will be available in the U.S. – along with one of ten signed prints by iconic fashion photographer Steven Klein. The box also features a custom horse’s head bottle stopper and an array of custom barware to get a unique flavor experience that the nearly $3,000 price tag promises.

The current ultra-limited edition box is Macallan’s sixth and final collaboration with photographers; previous collaborations feature photography heavy-hitters like Annie Lebowitz, Elliot Erwit, and Mario Testino. In the past, each photographer was tasked with capturing the essence of the whiskey making process – this year’s collaboration with Klein is no different and focuses on Time. In Klein’s signature style featuring arresting images that are highly stylized and composed, Macallan and Klein put together a video that captures the artist’s perception of time captured. It’s a visual assault that forces the viewer to become lost in the frozen moment being captured. As Klein puts it:

“My intention was to examine a world standing still through a moving camera. Typically with consumption of alcohol, there is always an abundance of movement. I thought what if it had all stopped for a moment and I could take a closer look at it. The idea is the perception of time.”

While the work is a commissioned piece of commercial art, the striking images and unabashed high fashion approach that Klein is known for makes for a compelling image nonetheless. For the photographer with deep pockets and a true love of whiskey, the Macallan Masters of Photography: Steven Klein box is a conversation piece worth lusting over. For what it’s worth, it’s still cheaper than Leica.
