Real Picture Printing, Mostly Portable – Epson PictureMate PM400

Standard

Today’s photography is often viewed as a disposable commodity. What else could explain the fact that editorial and commercial budget has been reduced to a pittance of what they once were? For hobbyists and amateurs, photography is but a fleeting moment on a tiny screen often lacking a lasting connection to its subject. Part of this lack of connection comes from the shift from analog photography to digital photograph; a gap that easy-to-use, digital to analog photography products like the Epson PictureMate PM400 hope to bridge.

Document scanning is not a sexy avenue in the world of consumer tech and we get that, but neither is being audited by the IRS. If you’re a freelancer or sales professional that absolutely must keep accurate and reliable records throughout the year. If you’ve logged enough miles on the job or spent too many nights away from your home office you’ve probably amassed enough paper receipts to make bookkeeping one of the items on tomorrow’s to-do list. Epson’s WorkForce ES-60W mobile document scanner promises to make it easier for you to get work done, even when you’re on the road. Here’s what we thought.

As 2018 comes to a close, Alberto and Paul struggle not to have the year end on a sour note. Sure, we talk about robot job interviews and how more and more employers are adopting this highly impersonal approach to hiring, and we find out that Quora was hacked in real-time, but Paul saves the day with his IRL review of the Google Pixel 3!

Thank you for rocking with us in 2018. We have one more show before the year is done and we hope to have some surprise guests as well as some bold predictions for 2019. Happy holidays.

In this episode, Alberto and Paul are back with a full list of tech news and new gripes. Coming off of Apple’s Oct. 30th announcement, we try to figure out if the latest computing advancements are worth losing the ability to do self-repairs. We also take a minute to remind our listeners that you don’t just have to take – the Electronic Frontier Foundation is actively fighting back and trying to preserve users’ rights (link below).

Paul is on the fence about the new Google Pixel 3 – from underpowered internals to weird notches popping up, he’s not sure if this is the phone for him.

And lastly, we try to make sense of the recently announced Yongnuo YN450 – an Android-powered 4/3’s camera that sports a Canon EF mount. Did we mention it runs Android 7.1? WTF?
